Threaded Rod – Everything You Need To Know
What is threaded rod?
Threaded rod, often referred to as a stud, is a rod of varying length that is threaded in a helical structure.
Similar in appearance to a screw, the threading extends around and along the rod to cause rotational movements when in use. Threaded rods combine linear and rotational movement to create strong resistance to pressure.
The direction of the rotation caused by a full threaded rod depends on whether the rod has a right-hand thread, left-hand thread, or both.
Designed to withstand very high levels of pressure and tension, threaded rods are a common fixing for support systems and used for a variety of applications.
What is a threaded rod used for?
Threaded rods are fasteners and functions thanks to the threading, which causes a tightening action from the rotational movement. Threading on a rod allows other fixings like bolts and nuts to easily screw or fasten to it.
Threaded rods have many applications, effectively working as a pin to fasten or connect two materials together.
Also used to stabilize structures, they can be inserted into various materials like concrete, wood or metal to either temporarily create a steady base during construction or they can be installed permanently.
How to choose the correct threaded rod
There are several types of threaded rod available on the market that will suit different purposes, conditions and materials.
The fully threaded rod that Armafix supplies are usually used when effective grip strength is required through the entire length of the rod.
They are often used to align structures or are embedded into materials, like concrete, as the threading provides good resistance.
The material is another essential factor to consider when choosing the best-suited rod for your application.
Threaded rods are used in a variety of sectors and for several purposes such as construction, plumbing, manufacturing, marine, agricultural, oil extraction and contractor work.
How to cut threaded rod
Sometimes threaded rod will have to be cut to suit your project. It is a common question and not quite as simple as you might think. The rod can be difficult to hold in place and the threading can be affected.
Perhaps the easiest and more efficient way of cutting threaded rod is to use a rod cutter, which will produce a clean, burr-free cut with less effort and less time wasted, plus it is lightweight and can be used for overhead work.
Cutting threaded rod with a hacksaw
If you’re using a hacksaw, a good tip is to take a small block of wood and drill a hole through it to place your rod through.
Secure the rod in the vice with two nuts either side using a thin kerf, the rod can then be cut and held in place. Once it is cut, you can unscrew the nuts, which will tidy up the ends and keep the threading in good shape.
A simple illustration of this can be found here.
Another efficient method is to use a bench vice to hold the rod in place, and an angle grinder to cut the rod. Cut the road at a flat angle and be sure to wait a few minutes before touching the newly cut edge after using an angle grinder as it will be hot.
How to bend threaded rod
As well as cutting threaded rod, sometimes it needs to be bent in order to fit the intended application. This involves using a mounted bench vice and propane or Oxy-Acetylene torch and should be done with caution.
Placing two bolts in the vice again to clamp around the rod, fix the threaded rod securely in place. Apply the lighted torch on the part of the rod you wish to bend.
Metal can be damaged by too much heat, but for stainless steel – as a general rule of thumb – once it is a reddish colour, it is ready to bend. You can reheat the rod several times until you have the required shape.
Remember to use heavy-duty gloves and eye goggles!
How to join threaded rod
If you need to connect threaded rods, you can use connector bolts to get the required length and secure them together.
You can also use threaded rod plastic protection caps to cover and protect the ends.
The welded washers are usually there for shear (tension wouldn't require the weld EDIT: IT WOULD REQUIRE THE WASHER, THOUGH). If you have adequate friction resistance or shear keys under the baseplate, you don't need welded washers. If you designed the connection to resist lateral loads through shear in the bolts, it depends. If you designed for 2 of the 6 bolts (I'm guessing at your layout) to take all of the shears, you probably don't need the welded washers as long as your ok with movement of the base of the column equal to the diameter of the oversized hole (again, assuming it's oversized) minus the anchor diameter (Not half, but all - what if the anchor is slightly off and hard against the opposite side of the hole? There's a reason oversized holes are used in baseplates.) If you need all of the bolts to resist the shear, then you need to have welded washers at all of the bolts. If you don't, you could have a couple bolts closer to the sides of the holes than others, so they'll load first and prevent the others from loading until they have deflected and/or failed - and then the others engage with two fewer than needed and the rest fail.

Whole Herbs vs. Standardized Herbal Extracts: Which is Better?
Many Herbal Products to Choose From
The mainstream use of herbal medicines is becoming increasingly popular, and there are many herbal products to choose from. With so many choices, it is easy to get confused about which forms of herbs are right for you. One important decision is whether to use whole herbs or standardized herbal extracts. This can be tricky because even the experts are split on this issue. Therefore, it is best to know the facts about the difference between the two so that you can make an informed decision.
Whole Herbs
A whole herb is just what it says: the whole herb, usually dried and encapsulated or processed and preserved in alcohol or another solvent. Whole herbs contain all of the constituents of the plant and have been used for hundreds of years by many cultures. In fact, modern medicine originated with the use of whole herbs. The medicinal properties of herbs have been learned through empirical observation and the information has been passed down through successive generations of healers. Although the effects of herbs have not always been formally and scientifically researched, whole herbs have a long track record validating their safety and efficacy.
The chemical makeup of an herb can vary slightly, however, depending on a variety of factors. First, the environment in which the plant has been grown has an effect on the constituents of the herb. The time of year it is harvested, the soil in which it is grown, and the weather all influence the overall quality of the final product. Second, methodology plays a role. For example, the age of the plant at harvest, the exact part of the plant being used, and processing techniques can all make a difference. Finally, each plant or population of plants has its own individual genetics, thus adding another source of end-product variation.
Standardized Herbal Extract
Standardized herbal extracts are functional ingredients that have one or more components present in a specific, guaranteed amount, usually expressed as a percentage. The intention behind the standardization of herbs is to guarantee that the consumer is getting a product in which the chemistry is consistent from batch to batch. This practice has developed out of the drug model of herbal medicine, in which modern scientists have attempted to identify the components of a plant that have definite pharmacological activity in the body. Unfortunately, while scientists can isolate many constituents from an herb and discover how particular chemicals may act in the body, they inadvertently remove or overlook components that may contribute to the activity of the whole herb. Consequently, standardization may concentrate one constituent at the expense of other potentially important ones, while changing the natural balance of the herb’s components.
As more shoppers gravitate toward fresh foods in lieu of processed items, bakers must examine how their products align with this changing attitude. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Americans are consuming more products than ever, but the average U.S. diet still falls short of the recommendations listed in the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans due to lack of access, busy schedules, poor eating habits and more.
While nothing may ever completely replace the feeling of biting into a crisp apple or the smug satisfaction of finishing a salad, fruit and vegetable powders give snack producers an opportunity to provide consumers with nutrient-dense products that can be conveniently enjoyed without the intense prep work other fresh items require.
ON THE FACE OR body, a dusting of powder gives a smooth finish to the skin, covers blemishes and flaws, and absorbs perspiration and excess skin oil.
The marketplace offers a profusion of powders. There are matte face powders, in loose or pressed form, that are designed for dry, normal or oily skin; translucent powders that allow the natural skin color to show through; opalescent powders that give the skin a slight shimmer; tinted powders that tone down ruddiness; body powders that are suffused with fragrance or with glitter for nighttime sparkle; baby powders that are made from either talc or cornstarch; medicated powders that fight body odor and troublesome microorganisms or soothe irritations, and even perfumed liquid body ''coolers'' - powder suspended in an alcohol base - that dry on the skin to a powder finish.
The highly purified powders of the present are a far cry from the crude cosmetics of the past. From the dawn of history, vanity led women to sometimes life-threatening lengths to whiten their skin. The earliest powders were concocted from ingredients such as bean flour, chalk and ceruse, a highly toxic white lead.
Today, most powders are a blend of several cosmetics ingredients, including talc, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, kaolin and magnesium carbonate, each of which imparts specific benefits. According to cosmetic chemists, the ideal powders should have five characteristics: covering power, absorbency, adhesiveness, slip and bloom.
There’s a lot of buzz around probiotics. They’re endorsed by celebrities and fill grocery stores aisles.
Probiotic powder is beneficial bacteria that promote a healthy gut. Scientists believe they could unlock a deeper understanding of our health. Probiotics are found in some foods and drinks, like yogurt or fermented tea.
Just like vitamins, probiotics are available as supplements. Manufacturers make steep claims about their benefits. They include digestive health, strengthened immune system, weight loss and reduced cancer risk.

Reducing the risk of wound infections with disposable surgical clothing
To minimize the risk of germ transfer in surgical operating theatres, sterile draping of patients, their surroundings and the wearing of sterile clothing are all essential safety measures, irrespective of the nature of the operation. Given their vital role in infection protection, draping materials and operating theatre clothing are legally regarded as medical products with their production and quality testing subject to European Standard EN 13795.
Reducing the risk of wound infections with disposable surgical clothing
Different operations have different risks of infection. Long, complex operations involving high levels of blood and irrigating fluids, carry the highest risk while risk is lower, but still present, in shorter operations where large amounts of body fluids are not expected. Even with careful observance of hygiene standards, and execution of the usual antibiotic prophylaxis, there is infection at the surgical site in approx. 1-5 % of elective surgical procedures. For the patients affected, this means an extension of their pain and functional restrictions – even if there are no more serious consequences.
Single use vs. Reusable Materials
The material used in surgical drapes and sterile clothing also raises issues of health economics. Draping materials and operating theatre clothing made of nonwoven fabric are often preferred to reusable textile systems due to the material safety and the associated high level of protection against infection. Although these are the most important reasons, another benefit is that single-use materials remove the need for sophisticated reprocessing of reusable textile systems, which is a cost-intensive undertaking.
Medical products are classified into two performance levels: high performance and standard performance. This means that draping materials and 68g original-spunlace nonwoven surgical gowns can be tailored exactly to the respective surgery-specific requirements in material quality and product design. This flexibility allows hospitals to choose safe, cost-effective standard performance speciality medical drapes for low-risk operations and specific tailored surgical gowns for higher-risk operations involving large amounts of body fluids.
Single-use and reusable products are subject to the same safety standards as applied to reusable products for their entire life cycle.
The minor procedure sets contain a large assortment of instruments. All tools are manufactured of high-quality nonwoven and are contained in a durable canvas case.

During the last few decades, dental supply manufacturers from all over the world have introduced many different types of dental raw materials. Some did well initially but eventually faded, some never saw the light of day, and some skyrocketed, specifically zirconia. Today, all things considered, zirconia is the best material for dental restorations.
What Is Zirconia?
Zirconia consists of zirconium dioxide, which has the highest mechanical strength and fracture resistance of all non-metallic materials. Besides the strength, the other main reason it is widely favored in medical devices is due to its superior surface smoothness. In addition to medical prosthetics, zirconia has been widely used across industry and markets in such products as watches, knives, jewelry, valves, gears, and pumps, to name a few.
Zirconia in Dentistry Today
Zirconia is the most recent arrival in dental materials. It only became popular when CAD/CAM was introduced in the dental laboratory process in the 2000s. Until about 2009, when gold prices soared, zirconia had only a small share of the market in dentistry. Then, as an alternative to expensive gold crowns, dental zirconia ceramic became a more popular choice among restorative dentists.
If multilayer?zirconia is the best material, then why wasn’t it used much before? It’s simple. Most mom-and-pop local dental labs could not afford to invest in high-tech, computerized, advanced CAD/CAM systems. Additionally, most of those small labs did not have the skill or knowledge to use the new technology.
Three Popular Variations
Most zirconia in the market today shares a very similar composition. However, the manufacturing process differs slightly depending on the purpose of the zirconia. For example:
Solid or monolithic zirconia with full compressed blanks to get the maximum strength (1,100 to 1,200 MPa)
Lightly compressed zirconia to accommodate medium translucency of anterior restorations (700 to 850 MPa)
Full zirconia framework stacked with zirconia powder (layered zirconia) to accommodate maximum aesthetics for anterior translucency
There are many different types of zirconia for dentistry today, and it’s confusing because of the many brand names. I receive many calls from our clients asking about this brand and that brand, but my answer is always the same.
Regardless of what they call it, most zirconia shares a similar composition. However, it differs according to the manufacturing process, which affects two main characteristics: strength and translucency (or opacity).
For example, the opacity of the dental zirconia blank is directly proportional to the strength. In other words, the strongest zirconia blanks are the most opaque they will be. Therefore, if you need the highest translucency (the least opaque blank) for your anterior restorations, the strength is significantly compromised. Still, it may be stronger than other non-metallic dental raw materials.
Why Dental Zirconia Is the Best Material
There are three reasons why zirconia is the best material for dental restorations, primarily based on a comparison of metal-containing products, such as porcelain fused to metal, a full metal crown, and titanium. By comparison, zirconia is much more aesthetic, lasts longer, and is even more biocompatible. However, there are a few downsides as well.
Unless you are closely involved with the dental sector, you may not know that acrylic polymers (PMMA or Poly Methyl Methacrylate) are essential in creating the very highest quality, lasting solutions for dental procedures.
Statistics show that there are huge percentages of the population in Europe and the Americas with missing teeth and affected with oral disease. According to the WHO, (World Health Organization), around 30% of the population aged 65-74 has lost their natural teeth while 60-90% of school children worldwide have dental cavities. Add to these factors an increasing consumer awareness of oral health issues and a rapidly increasing population and it is clear that there is much evidence to suggest that the global dental products market is set to grow significantly.
For over 65 years we have been working closely with global market leaders and academic communities to build on our knowledge in the dental sector to develop leading edge dental PMMA.
If you have braces you may find that they rub against the insides of your cheeks or lips. Sore spots on the inside of your mouth can develop because of this, especially in the first days and weeks of you wearing braces. The best way to treat this is simply by applying a little dental wax to your braces. The wax helps to make a barrier between your braces and your lips, cheeks, tongue and gums. The wax is easy to apply and will most likely have been supplied to you by your orthodontist.
In the past several years, the use of zirconia restorations has become increasingly common. Due to the increasing number of prescriptions for zirconia restorations, more laboratories are purchasing milling machines to mill the copings and crowns in-house. After learning how to use the mill, most dental laboratories seek to increase and maximize productivity with the milling machine. To help with this goal, laboratories need to consider three aspects: the use of the right materials, proper nesting, and tooling. This article focuses on the third aspect—milling tools and three features that add value.
The second aspect is the coating. When milling zirconia, using diamond-coated tools will significantly extend the life of the milling burs. We manufacture all our milling burs with the highest-quality materials. The diamond coating that Primotec uses is a proprietary chemical diamond formula, making the tools last up to 10 times longer than standard carbide burs. Finding high-quality zirconia that is not too hard in its pre-sintered stage will also help increase bur life drastically.
The flutes are the third aspect. Most milling tools on the market use only two flutes. Our burs use three flutes, which means 50% more cutting surface than those with two flutes. This point alone can add as much as 50% more life. Also, we notice that the milled restorations are even smoother than those produced with only two fluted tools. If you want to increase your feed rate, that additional flute helps in removing the material at a quicker rate, maintaining a quality surface finish.

Long before American cowboys sported bandanas, the European snuff user of the 18th century suffered from an embarrassing problem: Blowing his nose into a white or solid-colored handkerchief left behind dark tobacco stains. He found a stylish solution in India, where textile makers employed a millennium-old tie-dyeing technique called bandhani to create colorful silk and cotton kerchiefs covered in lively patterns. After the Dutch and English East India companies imported these kerchiefs to England, snuff-takers embraced them to make their habit more discreet, and the name was anglicized to “bandana.”
By the early 19th century, Europe had started producing its own face bandanas, most notably in Mulhouse, France, where dye producers developed a version of Turkey red, the color most commonly associated with bandanas today. The original dye was made of sheep dung, madder root and olive oil, and applied to fabric through a process so complicated it inspired “all sorts of industrial espionage,” says Susan Brown, associate curator of textiles at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. The familiar paisley pattern imitated Kashmir shawls.
In colonial America, tube bandanas were sometimes printed with maps, as guides for travel. They also made a splash during the Revolutionary War. One bandana from the period featured a likeness of George Washington astride a horse, encircled by a series of cannons and the words, “George Washington, Esq., Foundator and Protector of America’s Liberty and Independency.” Historians suspect that Martha Washington commissioned this cotton headband, likely made in 1775 or 1776 by Philadelphia textile manufacturer John Hewson.
Bandanas have appeared frequently in American politics ever since. Theodore Roosevelt’s 1912 bandana included the words and music for his boisterous campaign song, “We Want Teddy.” The bandana for Adlai Stevenson’s 1956 presidential campaign featured a smiling photo of the candidate and exhorted voters to go “All the Way with Adlai.”
Still, beloved by cowboys and bandits—including a bank robber in Miami Lakes, Florida, this January—bandanas today are used as a handkerchief, neck gaiters, headwear or, in Covid-19 times, face mask. “They were largely meant for hard use,” says Madelyn Shaw, a curator at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History’s division of cultural and community life. Despite their all-American status, the best-selling bandanas during the pandemic aren’t red, white or blue. They’re black.
Few accessories have lived as complicated a life as the headscarf. The versatile fabric has been chosen by and impressed upon people for political, religious and practical purposes for centuries. It has been favored by revolutionaries and royalty alike. It can be either conservative or rebellious. Beyond its utilitarian origins as a source of protection from the elements, the headscarf remains at the center of contentious debate about women's rights, identity, power and class.
Throughout history, the cotton bandana has sat atop the heads of culture defining women -- and men -- from monarchs including Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II to the daring flappers of the 1920s. Ranging from patterned prints to luxe fabrics to simple sheaths, the fashion item is wrapped in centuries of interpretation.
"There's a reason why the (head)scarf has transcended time," said Lynn Roberts, vice president of advertising and public relations at fashion outfitter Echo Design Group, over the phone from New York City. "When you're wearing one, people pay attention."

You can purchase food dehydrators that are reasonably priced and make your own dehydrated grub. These drying machines are usually very simple to use and they’re a great way to store your summer surplus. It really is fun to buy the freshest plums, apricots, grapes, apples and bananas to make your own healthy snacks.
HOW THEY WORK
Microwave Dryers are usually small-sized appliances that are perfect for drying fruits, vegetables, seeds, herbs, fish and meats.
If you grow your own fresh vegetables or have produced fruit trees, grapevines or berry bushes, you would probably really appreciate being able to put some up without using up valuable freezer space (or having to dig it out – especially from a chest type).
Or you can go through the more labor-intensive process of canning it which, in the case of fruit, generally adds more sugar to the end product.
For those that do not have the luxury of owning your own garden, you can take advantage of seasonal offerings by shopping the sales in the produce market and benefiting from reduced prices.
Simple to use dehydrators come in many sizes with varying numbers of shelves or trays for drying.
You place the food on a tray and the appliance slowly distributes heated air throughout the mesh-covered trays.
The hot air dryer generates a very gentle heat (at least the good ones) that dries the food at a slow and even rate, preserving the organic matter and preventing “case hardening” on the outside.
Case hardening occurs when the fruits, vegetables, or meats are heated too fast, forming a seal on the outside and trapping in moisture. It is very important to remove as much water as possible in the drying process.
Each dehydrator will work a little bit differently and the rate at which foods can be dried will vary accordingly. For example, thicker, denser foods will take longer to dry compared to something like soft fruit, which breaks down more easily. As you begin to work with a new machine, you will come to learn the appropriate sizes to cut different fruits, meats and vegetables to obtain the most efficient drying process.
Roasted vegetables are a uniquely special side. They're tender and creamy but crisp and crunchy. The long, high-heat roast also gives them a delicate bit of char or caramelization that's delicious and almost impossible to repeat with any other cooking technique. Our roasting machine can meet your requirements very well.
The fruit and vegetable equipment imitates the manual washing method and adopts a mesh belt drive. The high-pressure air pump generates gas, which makes the fruits and vegetables perform a powerful rotary motion in the washing machine. Under the action of high-pressure water flow and strong bubbles, the impurities on the surface of fruits and vegetables are effectively separated. At the same time, because the material rotates in the steam-water mixture, it effectively avoids damage to the material such as bumps, bumps, and scratches during the cleaning process.
As a company specializing in the production of food fruit and vegetable processing line, we have observed the growing demand for such products in the market. Especially in China, sales of processed juices continue to increase in recent years. In developed countries, this processed fruit beverage has commanded nearly 50% of the beverage market, but in China, it’s only 20%-30%. Therefore, we believe the China market still has a huge potential, and will further develop in the next few years.
